I was shamelessly eavesdropping on my husband taking a business call the other day.
He used a few useful expressions that are specific to the business world which I wanted to share here.
off the top of my head
When you use your memory to best guess something without checking it.
I can’t remember the exact number of delegates, off the top of my head about 120.
Let’s touch base soon.
In the near future we’re going to call / email or meet to update each other on what’s been going on. Let’s touch base when we have some results to discuss.
a learning curve
At the beginning of a new job or taking on a new project there is an initial period where you need to learn the job or project. It’s been a steep learning curve but I can answer questions related to that project now.
Have you come across any useful Business English expressions?
Thanks for your message. Let me check I understand your meaning correctly:
Do you mean that
1) you are very busy right now and do not have time to contribute to the discussion
2) you would like to talk more freely, rather than answer the questions that have been asked by the teachers in the forum?
If you have another meaning, please explain so that I can fully understand.
I am looking forward to hearing from you and helping you, whatever your needs may be.
