English Language Teacher
I have experience working with both children and adults. I have taught students of all levels – from beginner to advanced. I have also helped students prepare for their TOEIC and IELTS exams.
I enjoy creating a learning path for students catered to their specific needs. A lot of my students have found it beneficial to have literature incorporated into their one-on-one course with me. Whether that be reading an English text, discussing the plot and the language or creating haiku, there are many different interesting ways we can create a course that works for you.
Hello, my name is Tom, a Welshman living in Edinburgh.
I studied English at the University of South Wales and graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) degree. I went on to the University of Warwick where I graduated with an MA in Writing. In 2017, I obtained my CELTA certificate where my love of different cultures and languages came to the forefront. Having lived in Edinburgh for over a three years now I am humbled by the vast diversity of people that live here. Due to this, it has made me very excited to teach students about my home language.
I am a writer and editor. My debut poetry pamphlet ’empire of dirt’ was published by Red Squirrel Press. My short stories, poetry and essays have been published in a variety of publications including The Glasgow Review of Books, Oh Comely, Ink, Sweat & Tears, And Other Poems, among others. I have been a commissioned poet for Warwick Arts Centre, The Pen Museum and St. Fagan’s Museum.
I am enthusiastic about language and more than appreciate the privilege we English speakers have. Thus, I believe encouragement, inquisitively and discussion helps with learning the many conflicting rules of the English language. I believe that learning is all about perseverance. You may not get it the first time and that’s alright – that’s how it works, that’s the point of learning – and that’s why I’m here.
